Secretary of State.
In view of present situation in China,
and of the importance of establishing an aerodrome
without delay, I hardly like to telegraph as
proposed. I would prefer to say:-
"Your telegram 1st February.
Acquisition
of land for aerodrome. Please see Commodore's
telegram to Admiralty No.97. As matter of
urgency I approve expenditure of £4000 and
work being put in hand forthwith. Please
report if in addition to the £4000 expenditure
will be necessary in order to carry out
Commodore's proposals and if so what amount.
As regards cost of subsequent stages in the
establishment of complete aerodrome this will
have to be considered later. Please furnish
me with any details you can give me as to the
amounts that will be involved".
I have spoken to Mr. Ellis, and explained to him the objections I see to telegraphing as in
draft.
